Non-Christian Camp Day #1: Meeting the Kids

Mentors waiting to register kids for camp

The day we all anticipated has finally arrived, meeting our kids for the first time and getting to know them. Each mentor is filled with anxiety as their kids are registered and their dorm is slowly being occupied, one by one.

Starting as early as 8:30am kids were already coming to the camp and started getting registered. We did not expect so much kids to come this early, because registration was from 10-12pm; so mentors were running around trying to figure out who their kids were and walking them over to their rooms. Up until lunchtime at 12:30pm, we were greeting the kids, meeting the parents, and getting them situated in their beds.

After lunch, we had our first service at camp were each group was presented and each kid shared their interests and hobbies. In addition, all the teachers, directors, coordinators, cooks, nurse and all the helpers were introduced to the camp. After the service, everyone went onto the field and we played with a big parachute that the kids really enjoyed. Then we had a break to rest in our dorms and later we all went under the tent to do some arts and crafts with the kids. They made tide-dye bandanas with the help of the mentors; it turned out great.

After dinner, we had our evening service where we taught the kids the main songs of the camp. The kids were able to catch on quickly to the songs. During the service, each group had to present their group name, motto (девиз) and a song. This concluded our first day.
